Contact Jan Andrews
Janet (Jan) K. Andrews earned her A.B. from Bard College and her A.M. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Pennsylvania. She teaches and advises students in Vassar's Psychology Department and Cognitive Science Program. Courses she frequently teaches include statistics and experimental design, language, and introductory cognitive science.
Her research interests concern the relationships between perception, language, and cognition. In particular, she is interested in the structure and formation of category concepts and in the relationship between perceptual processes and abstract knowledge. Her research studies investigate these issues by examining the category learning behavior and perceptual judgments of adults, children, and neural networks. Much of her research is done in collaboration with Ken Livingston, also of the Vassar Psychology Department and Cognitive Science Program.
